I spent the night in New York City shortly after the attacks. My hotel turned out to be directly across from the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat building — the same one where a woman had died of anthrax the week before.
The next morning we walked down toward Ground Zero. We couldn't get very close, but later that day we got access to the NYSE floor and made it up to the top of the building. Standing there, I had an unobstructed view of the site where the World Trade Center had stood three weeks earlier. It's not something that can be captured on film or adequately described.
